This coming Thursday, Rio Rancho High School has been selected as the site to host Presisdent Barrack Obama's town hall meeting. In an effort to accomdate the President there will not be wrestling practice on Tuesday 5/12/09. We will resume practice on Thursday 5/14/09. Those people who have been inquiring about a tournament this weekend at the High School, we are not hosting one til the New Mexico State Games on May 30.
Max finished with an amazing 197-6 record and has earned several All-American honors. Max most recently was awarded the Dave Schultz excellence award as the Top wrestler from
Chris Rubalcaba recently signed his National Letter of Intent to wrestle for Mesa St. College in Grand Junction Colorado. Mesa St. is in the RMAC Conference and competes against New Mexico Highlands, Adams St., and several other schools as well. Congrats Chris!!!!
3/05/09 This past week, April 1st to the 4th, the Rio Rancho Rams Wrestling team along with the other wrestlers from the state of Out of the 8 Ram wrestlers, 4 of them were honored with All-American status placing within the top 8 of their respective brackets. In the sophomore division Matt Nunez placed 5th, in the junior division Louis Trujillo placed 1st (National Champion) and in the senior division Jake Williams placed 6th, and the 5x state champion Max Ortega was runner-up in the 140 lbs. bracket. Louis Trujillo is has won the NHSCA Nationals as a Freshman, Sophomore and Junior. If Louis can repeat next year he will be the first wrestler to ever win the tournament four times. Max Ortega is a three time National Finalist; a runner-up as a Sophomore, National Champion as a Junior, and Runner-up as a Senior. Max’s brother Matthew won the Senior National title 2 years ago. |
Last night the Rams Wrestlers had another dominating dual match. Rio Rancho hosted a Triangular with all of last years State Champions, Robertson High School, Belen High School, and the defending 5A state champions Rio Rancho Rams. The first match was Robertson high school versus Rio Rancho high school. The Rams won with score of 55 - 15 scoring 4 falls throughout the match from, Max Ortega, Caleb Rubalcaba, Louis Trujillo, and Chris Rubalcaba. The Rams next match was against the very tough 4A state champions, Belen Eagles. The Rams scored and impressive 7 falls and one technical fall coming out with a 59 - 18 victory. Congratulations RAMS!!!! This weekend the RAMS are back on the road attending the prestigious Peoria Tournament of Champions. Good Luck.

The Rams had a very succesful summer on the mat. The highlight came at the USA Cadet National Championships in Fargo, ND when Louis Trujillo Jr. won the Cadet 125 lb. Freestyle National Title. Also earning All-American Status was Matt Nunez who placed in the Cadet Greco Roman. Others Rams that participated in the tournament were Nathaniel Lujan, Zach Rogers, Max Ortega and Shea Nolan. Max Ortega was on his way to earning a place when he suffered a severe eye injury that forced him to default after his 3rd match.
